Karen Boren Gerstenberger is an artist and author who works primarily with acrylic paint on canvas. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art, graduating cum laude in the early 1980s. Karen had the pleasure of spending a term of study in England, focusing on plein air work and screen-printing.
Unfortunately, the critique process of formal art education had a crippling effect. Suffering from years of artist's block, Karen turned to crafts and writing for creative expression. She eventually traveled to Portland, Oregon to study with renowned intuitive painter Flora Bowley, and the block dissolved. She now paints freely and joyfully on the shores of Puget Sound, where she lives with her husband and two cats. Her avid interest in stories, photography, history and forms found in nature influences her work, as does her love of the sea.
A two-month exhibit of her paintings at the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island, WA, titled "What Makes You Come Alive" was a great success. Karen's artwork is in private collections around the U.S., in Canada, Austria and South Africa. Original work may be purchased directly from her, or in the gallery at
