Karen is an artist and author who works with acrylic paint, watercolor ink and mixed media in the Puget Sound region of Washington State.
She received her Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art, graduating cum laude in the early 1980s. Karen had the pleasure of spending a term of study in England, focusing on plein air work and screen-printing.
Because the critique process of formal art education had a crippling effect, Karen suffered from decades of artist's block. She turned to crafts and writing for creative expression; eventually, she traveled to Portland, Oregon to study with renowned intuitive painter Flora Bowley, and the block dissolved. Karen now paints freely and joyfully in her home studio near Poulsbo, WA. Her avid interest in reading, photography, history and all of the forms found in nature influences her work, as does her life-long love of the sea.
Karen's artwork is held in private collections around the U.S., in Canada, Austria and South Africa. Original work may be purchased directly from her, in the gallery at Savage Plants and Landscape
